Putting people on pedestals
When you’re new, it’s easy to put people on a pedestal.
I did this at the very beginning myself.
The problem with this is that you disqualify yourself from doing business with people who you do this to.
You act like they’re so much better than you and you’re not worthy. You struggle to even talk to these people.
When you start doing deals, even LP deals, and you’re around these people enough, you start to eventually see their human faults.
You’ll notice that a lot of them don’t even know the apartment insights that you know. They've just climbed the social ladder.
They are making mistakes in selecting deals that you know are mistakes.
They display lack of discipline and start spending money on houses and cars when you’re giving everything up to make another deal happen.
You notice they’re selling deals as soon as things get hard and when there’s fear in the market.
Eventually, when you see these mistakes made by the people doing these massive deals, you come to the realization that holy shit, these people are just normal people.
They’re just in the vehicle that carries them to success.
A great quote is “It’s not about how hard you row, but what boat you’re in.”
- Warren Buffett.
Get in the right boat. You’re worthy of being there if you just put in the time to learn.
