In my mind, there's only one job you have to succeed. That job is to plant the seeds of success.
Each action you do is a seed. The bad seeds you plant will often show up 1-6 months down the line. Every action has a consequence and you should take it that seriously. In this sense, what we experience today is actually the result of the seeds we planted weeks or even years ago.
The difficult thing is that when you plant the good seeds, it may take 3 months to 10+ years to see the true result. This is why faith is maybe the most necessary thing required for success. Can you keep planting the right seeds even when you see no sign of succeeding and short term pleasures are all around you? Can you do this over and over and over and over?
The great thing about this is that it's completely in your control. You have the ability to decide. Focus on nothing else except planting the seeds of the life you dream of in 1 year, 2 years, 5 years, a decade and a lifetime.
Keep your vision close, bright and colorful in your mind. From time to time experience what it feels like to have what you want; even if that means spending a little money to be immersed in your dreams.
This truth of life is why my favorite quote is, "90% of success can be boiled down to consistently doing the obvious thing for an uncommonly long period of time without convincing yourself that you're smarter than you are."
